The chronicle of Stettin records following :

1898 Foundation of the „Reederei Emil E. Retzlaff”

1911 Foundation of the “Dampfschiffs-Reederei Merkur” directed by  Retzlaff.

1914 Foundation of the  “Ostseewerft AG” directed by Retzlaff.

1915 Preparation work for the “Ostseewerft” in Frauendorf directed by  Retzlaff

1921 Delayed by the 1. World war, start with ship building at the „ Ostseewerft” in Frauendorf.

1929 Retzlaff is buying the „DESCHIMAG“ , the former shipyard of „ Nüscke & Co.“ ab and

merges them with his “Ostseewerft” in Frauendorf  under the new name

         “Merkurwerft”.

1931 Bankruptcy of the „Reederei Emil E. Retzlaff“ which initiated also the bankruptcy of the

          “Merkurwerft”.

During the bankruptcy new collecting societies were founded:  “Pommerania”

Schiffahrts GmbH and the “Sedina”  Reederei GmbH.

Both companies were unable to reactivate the laid up vessels.

1931 Curt Retzlaff tried to establish a new shipyard under the name “Stettiner Vulcan Werft,

Schiffs- und Maschinenbau GmbH” but this trial failed right from thebeginning.

1932 Emil E. Retzlaff`s son in law, Harald Pieper, founded the “Maris Schiffahrts GmbH” and

takes over the Passenger vessels and the tugs of the previous “Reederei

          Emil. R. Retzlaff”.

GmbH” are selling all vessels for breaking up, which previously were

          owned by Emil R.Retzlaff,

The economic depression became to its worst the same year.  Beside the passenger

liners, operating between the seaside resorts, all other vessels were laid up.

The rumor was, the vessels owned by Emil R. Retzlaff were lacking any kind of comfort

and were equipped with the bare minimum.

The Companies Kunstmann, Fritzen and Retzlaff in Stettin had their main offices

located in the same building, Am Bollwerk 1, 1a, 1b.

After the bankruptcy of the company Emil R. Retzlaff in the year 1931,

the “Maris – Schiffahrts GmbH in Stettin took over following  vessels :

          S/S Hans                      1932  End
